Patient Experience Week: What is it and why celebrate?

patient_experience_w1024

Patient Experience Week is a celebration of the healthcare staff that go above and beyond to increase the patient experience.

Every facility has those exceptional souls that give more of themselves.  They look for ways to make their patient a little more comfortable, help to bring a smile to their face, give the patient courage when they are faced with difficult news, or just knowing the right words to say to make a patient laugh or smile.

This is the week to celebrate those exceptional associates and also the people that may not have much interaction with the patient but still impact the patient's experience.

For example: I was recently visiting a healthcare facility and ordered a sandwich for lunch in their cafeteria. The woman making it was picking through the lettuce stating that she always likes to grab the freshest piece of lettuce when making someone's lunch.

That woman impacted me that day, she made me feel special.  In that 30 second interaction, she cared for me.  She created a positive experience and I will never forget her enthusiasm to find me the perfect piece of lettuce for my sandwich.

The Beryl Institute  is an organization that is dedicated to improving the patient experience.

It's members collaborate and share knowledge on how to raise the bar again and again.  They started Patient Experience Week to recognize and celebrate the  healthcare staff that positively impacts the patient directly or indirectly.

By participating in the "I am the Patient Experience" campaign, healthcare workers are empowered to feel they are making a difference for every patient.

Beekley Medical would like to take a moment to thank and celebrate all healthcare workers for their continuous efforts to impact the patient's experience.
