More than $1700 was raised for the Beekley Center for Breast Health and Wellness at Bristol Hospital at the Bristol Blues first annual Pink Night event.
Chris Boyle, Bristol Hospital's Director of Public Relations, was expecting the game to be more of a recognition with a modest amount of funds raised for the breast center based on the performance of other events.
The event was intended to raise awareness of breast cancer in the community. A moment of silence was held in honor those who lost their lives to breast cancer, but the overall tone of the event was to celebrate those who fought and survived, four of which (including Beekley Medical's very own Joyce Chase) threw out the ceremonial first pitches.
But of course, one should never underestimate the power of pink.
In addition to a 50/50 raffle, the pink jerseys and bats that were used during the game were auctioned off resulting in the team's most successful fundraiser to date.
A big thank you to the Bristol Blues and Bristol Hospital for hosting this event and inviting our Beekley family to participate.
